I've had a brilliant year singing lots of wonderful Handel but am looking forward to exploring some different repertoire in the next academic year. During the academic year 14/15 I shall be performing the rôles of Anne Truelove in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress and Nella in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi as part of Royal Academy Opera. Keep an eye on my diary for performance dates as shows sell out very quickly at the Academy.
I am delighted to have been accepted onto the Concordia Artists' Programme. As part of the programme, I will be giving a solo recital accompanied by Paul Mckenzie at St. Martin-in-the-Fields on the 19th of September, a duo recital with Natasha Day accompanied by Peter Foggitt in the National Portrait Gallery on the 5th of December and performing in the Concordia Foundation Christmas Gala Concert at St. Pauls, Covent Garden on the 13th of December 2014.
On the 12th of April I competed in the final of the Dunraven Young Welsh Singer Competition at Maesteg Town Hall. I am absolutely ecstatic to have been named the winner of the 2014 Dunraven Young Welsh Singer of the Year Competition and the recipient of a scholarship and stunning crystal trophy.
I met the wonderful harpsichordist/fortepianist Nathaniel Mander in 2008 whilst I was working as a steward in the Dartington International Summer School and we have remained firm friends musically and unmusically! This year, I was fortunate to be chosen to represent the Royal Academy of Music in the intercollegiate Sir Anthony Lewis Memorial Competition. We had enormous fun preparing very unusual repertoire for the competition and with the help of lutenist Toby Carr, I was awarded Second Prize. Nathaniel, Toby and I will also be performing in the final of the John Kerr Award at Finchcocks Museum, Kent on the 26th of October 2014.
This season at the Royal Academy I gave my first performance as Dalinda in Ariodante, conducted by Jane Glover and directed by Paul Curran. For review and photographs, please see press and gallery.
After the my first summer season with Garsington Opera and my professional operatic début as the Sandman in Hänsel und Gretel, I am delighted to be the recipient of the 2013 Leonard Ingrams Award for Most Promising Young Artist along with conductor Susanna Stranders. Please read more about the awards here: Garsington Opera Leonard Ingrams Awards 2013. For reviews of Olivia Fuchs' production and for photographs please see my gallery and press page.
On the 11th of February I was the incredibly fortunate winner of the Maggie Teyte Prize and Miriam Licette Scholarship at the Royal Opera House. The prize celebrates outstanding interpretation in French Song and consists of a scholarship and a chance to perform in the Royal Opera House's Crush Room. You can read more about the prize here: Help Musician's UK. A live recording was made of the recital I gave with Finnegan Downie Dear on the 1st of July 2013 which you can hear some selections from on my YouTube channel. You can hear the song we commissioned from the young composer Tom Floyd here: Le Dormeur du Val.
